The Cervus Trading-team consists of Andre and Magali. We are 2 re-enacters from the low countries who met at an event in 2011 and since then are joined in a mutual hobby.

As idle hands need to help with cooking, Magali started to make laces as something to do on events. Andre got the idea to sell them and on Oct 10th 2012 (10-11-'12) Cervus Trading started.

We started with laces, aiglets, some buttons and other small items, and since then, our product range has grown to a full shop. Today, we try to specalize in clothing accesoires and household items.

The base of our shop is our stand on living history and re-enactment fairs and we go to events throughout Europe. This gives us the chance to connect with our customers and give them the chance to see and touch our items so they can assess them themselves.

We started small with the stand and already did quite a lot online sales over the facebook page, but as the amount of customers from far far away grew, the need for a 'real' webshop evenly grew.

From today on, you can find and buy most of our products here. We hope that you enjoy the shop and to see you soon on an event, somewhere in Europe.

Kind regards

Andre and Magali

We're not only a webshop but we also attend different kinds of events. These events range from re-enactors markets to the bigger 14, 15 and 16th century re-enactment events. Here you can find a list of events we will be attending in the (near) future.

It is always possible to bring your order to an event, so you don't have the trouble of shipping. We try to respond to your requests/questions/orders as soon as possible, but if you're a re-enactor, you know they often happen in a field somewhere in the middle of nowhere with no internet connection (let alone showers!). Not that we can be bothered with internet on an event, but you get my drift.

Please let us know in time, making you happy with our pretty shinies, makes us happy!

Sometimes we don't know the exact date yet, but we'll try to update as soon as the organisations gives more information. Event list 2025

For getting the right items in our shop, we find it important to have good knowledge about the items we sell. This means reading books, visiting musea and reading more books. Because of this we have build up a nice book collection, which we use for getting it right. And for all those lovely little questions like: 'Do you have a source on that item?', 'Should this be like this?', 'OMG, does that really fold?!', etc.

To give you an idea about what sources we own, here is a list of books which we use regulary in our research. We find something we like, we find someone who produces it =D (yes, we have lots more than these!)

When you place an order, there are several things to know.

Stock

Most items are directly on stock. As we are a shop on events too, it can happen we've sold out or we can't reply immediately whether something is available or not. Because most of our items are handmade, it can take a while to get restocked again. This is certainly the case in the summertime when we have loads of events, as well as our suppliers. We will keep you up to date regularly about the status of your order.

Payment:

There are 3 payment options: banktransfer, paypal and paying on events. When you're in the Netherlands, you can pick it up at our home (we don't have an actual shop) or one of the many events we will be attending. We prepare your order and it will be ready for you on the event you're attending too.

Shipment:

Shipment is based on weight and not on size. As we have small and big items, we decided to calculate the prices for normal packages and not letter sized packages. If you order small items like pins and buttons, let us know and we will see if we can lower the shipping costs for you.

Languages:

We have made our website in English. But this is not the only language we know. You can use Dutch, German French and of course English if you want to contact us.

The name usually given in English to textiles like these is 'Perugia towels', deriving from tovaglie perugine. Tovaglia is usually translated as tablecloth, and tovagliolo as napkin, but their use was in both ecclesiastical and secular contexts. Their function included napkin and table cover, as well as altar cloth and sacristy hand towel. They were woven in mixed twill, ofter diaper, with white linen warp and weft, and had the characteristic feature of bands of pattern created with a supplementary weft of cotton, almost always dyed blue with indigo or woad, though occasionally in red, green or brown.

Apostle spoon sets comprise the twelve Apostles and the Saviour. The earliest is dated to 1493, though they were most popular from 1500 to the 1660's. They were often given as christening gifts. The wealthy might give a complete set, whereas the less affluent would give a single spoon, perhaps picking the Saint after which the child had been named. Silver spoons were generally much sought after as a sign of wealth, and whatever was popular in silver was soon copied in pewter, so that even the less well-to-do could enjoy some measure of style. Only four complete original sets are known to exist. These spoons are supplied loose, not boxed.
